Alexandra House to Break Ground on Linus’ Pet Haven

A Lifeline for Survivors and Their Pets

Blaine, MN, August 26, 2024 – Alexandra House is proud to announce the Groundbreaking Ceremony for Linus’ Pet Haven, a transformative project dedicated to creating a pet-safe shelter for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. The ceremony will take place on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Alexandra House’s Blaine Campus, located at 10065 3rd Street NE, Blaine, MN. We invite community members to join us in marking this significant milestone and showing their support for this vital initiative.

For the past two years, Alexandra House has been committed to addressing a critical barrier that many survivors face—having to choose between their own safety and the safety of their beloved pets. An alarming 71% of women in domestic violence shelters report that their abuser has threatened, injured, or killed a pet, and nearly half of these victims delay leaving abusive situations due to fear for their pets’ safety.

Linus’ Pet Haven aims to break this heartbreaking cycle by providing a safe refuge for both survivors and their pets, ensuring they can escape abuse together and begin their journey toward healing without the trauma of separation. This project is not merely renovating our facilities; it is an expansion of hope, compassion, and comprehensive support for those in need.

We anticipate that Linus’ Pet Haven will welcome its first pets in January 2025. Alexandra House is actively collaborating with a network of animal care and foster services to protect pets in violent situations and is seeking partnerships with veterinary clinics, animal groomers, and rescue organizations to support this initiative.

Please join us on September 9th to celebrate this groundbreaking moment and take a vital step with us toward creating a safer and more compassionate community. If attendees feel inspired, we welcome donations of cat or dog toys, collars, leashes, or pet beds to support Linus’ Pet Haven; check out our wish list on Amazon for ideas. Please RSVP your attendance.
