WEAAD involves activities to increase recognition of the mistreatment of older adults worldwide and highlight the need for appropriate action. Elder abuse is global and comes in many forms including physical, emotional, sexual and financial abuse and also neglect. Elderly people are human and deserve the same dignity and respect as people of all other age groups.
Why is WEAAD important?
- WEAAD highlights that elder abuse affects everyone, and that we can all help support older people as they age.
- WEAAD raises awareness of the cultural, social, economic, and demographic factors that contribute to elder abuse.
- WEAAD calls on individuals, organizations, and communities to learn how to identify, address, and prevent elder abuse.
